Kitchen sink clogs and grease: what to ask
A slow kitchen sink can involve grease or food residue, but those are not the only possible causes. Notice whether the kitchen sink is the only fixture affected and whether the problem has returned after previous cleaning.
Keep grease out of the drain
Do not pour cooking oil or grease into the sink. A garbage disposal does not make those materials suitable for a drain. Keeping them out helps reduce what enters the drainage system; it is not a treatment for an existing obstruction.
Describe the pattern
Tell the team whether the sink is slow, stopped or repeatedly clogging. Mention any other affected fixtures, earlier service and drain products already used. You do not need to dismantle the trap or carry out a drain-clearing procedure before calling.
If other fixtures are affected, say so at the start of the call. Read One slow drain, or a sewer problem? for help describing what you see.
Cleaning or further investigation?
Ask what section will be cleaned and what the service is intended to address. If the problem keeps returning, discuss whether camera inspection could help investigate the accessible line. See why a drain keeps clogging for questions about recurring trouble.
Commercial kitchens
Dunnrite offers commercial grease trap cleaning. Have the trap type, location, access details and service history ready when you call. Explain which kitchen drains are affected and ask what the proposed work includes. Trap cleaning and clearing a connected drain are different questions to discuss with the team.
